Lauren has been dancing since she could remember, whether formal dance training or at a family’s party. When she was younger, she grew up dancing with ballet, jazz, modern dance/lyrical, acro, and tap dance at the Robin Dawn Dance Academy. She additionally competed in dance team competitions and was a cheerleader/dancer for a few football teams. Lauren began her bellydance studies in 2002 under Jane McWilliams of Zuri. She founded Baklava Bellydance in June 2009 to explore performing to live music. Lauren then additionally founded and directed the sister/student bellydance troupe, Raq Garden.
Lauren has studied with a variety of bellydance forms with a many teachers including: Zoe Jakes, Aradia, Ahmed Hussein, Jillina, Ansuya, Bozenka, Amy Sigil, Heather Stants, Aziza, Karen Barbee, Rachel Lazarus, Jim Boz, Margo O-Del, Mira Betz, Petite Jamila, Gina, Eva Cernik, Megha Gavin, and Shamsi.
Recently, Lauren obtained her Key of Diamonds Certification with Zoe Jakes DanceCraft’s Tribal Fusion Bellydance Program. She is currently training for the next level of DanceCraft-Key of Spades. Additionally, she also is beginning her certification in the Trillium Belly Dance - West Coast Fusion Format Program.
Lauren also enjoys designing and sewing bellydance costumes for her troupes and an artist. She is also a budding vertical silk aerialist
